Mansun must be one of the most underrated bands ever. Formed in Chester, England, in the mid 1990s, Mansun comprised guitarist/vocalist Paul Draper, bassist Stove King, lead guitarist Dominic Chad and drummer Andy Rathbone. Their debut album, Attack of the Grey Lantern (1997), was a great success and even Radiohead publicly acknowledged their following album, Six, as inspirational. But after Little Kix (2000), the band split in 2003. Their mammoth 3-CD album Kleptomania is a treat for their fans. The collection features 37 tracks including the band's unfinished fourth album sessions which they produced between 2000 and 2003, plus non-album singles, EP-only tracks, B-sides and home demos. Even the 'unfinished' versions are surprisingly sophisticated. The opener Getting Your Way features multi-layered sound effects topped by Draper's seductive vocals. Harris is a mellow comment on nationalism. Mansun will be sorely missed, as will their inspiring music.
