Outstanding independent professionals from the world of top management are just what a ground-breaking organisation requires to add to its ever-deepening pool of talent. A rapidly growing professional services firm, which enables leading corporations to source experienced people on a project basis, is looking for independent consultants to join its team of high-calibre professionals. International firm a-connect, which has offices in Europe, the United States and Asia, was established three years ago by two ex-McKinsey partners. 'They saw this as an answer to clients asking for experienced talent with specific business skills and hands-on experience in solving problems,' said Marcel Pordes, who heads a-connect (China) with Dominic Chan. 'We believe we are unique as we are at the forefront of a new trend and [are] also helping to drive how corporations think about using talent. 'In essence, we are creating a marketplace for experienced independent consultants,' Mr Pordes said. The company is aiming to add as many talented individuals as possible to its network through a highly selective and rigorous recruiting process. 'Globally, we have around 200 people in our network out of about 1,500 applicants,' Mr Pordes said. 'These are all independent professionals who do not have the classic employee/employer relationship with us. 'Instead, they become members of our network, ready for instant deployment when a company comes to us with specific project-based needs.' Its new, defined and challenging assignments certainly make this role interesting, and the much more flexible lifestyle and opportunities it offers to work in different countries are also enticing. Mr Pordes said challenges included 'thinking through tough problems that companies are struggling with and finding innovative solutions for them'. People who are independent and self-starters are ideal. Individuals with good business acumen, practical experience and 'deep, expert knowledge on issues that matter' will probably get a foot in the door. Candidates should also be self-motivated, 'high performers', energetic and great communicators, and happy to lead change and create impact. The company is looking for top talent - 'people who, ideally, have worked in top-tier consulting firms such as McKinsey, BCG, Booz Allen or Bain, for example, [and] also have experience working in senior management roles in leading companies or have successfully built their own businesses', Mr Pordes said. Successful applicants will be continuously exposed to challenging projects, and clients will get experienced and flexible help to get the job done.
