The groans you might have heard when outsider Chosen One hit the line in front at the conclusion of the second race at Happy Valley on Wednesday night were definitely not coming from followers of Racing Post tipster Vincent Wong, alias Shannon. They could, however, have emanated from the throats of his rival tipsters, who are all flat out trying to chase down his substantial lead in the tipsters poll, only to have Shannon turn out the leading tipster on the night. Once again! Chosen One, ridden by Darryl Holland, started at odds of 40-1 and paid $409.00 for each $10 ticket. Wong said he had been impressed with Chosen One's previous start, when sixth to high-rating winner Yellow Diamond at Sha Tin after starting from barrier 13. 'Anthony Delpech rode him on that occasion and from the wide barrier, he went back and tried to get some cover,' Wong explained. 'I had no doubt that, given a better barrier draw, he would have been more forward on that occasion. Chosen One seemed to have done well in training and had put on weight since his last run. It was impossible to be confident of winning, but I did think he was a value chance in a race where the favourites did not look strong.' Wong has now extended his lead in the Straight Bets poll, having selected 70 winners from his top selection so far this season. He leads last season's champion tipster Racing Post Online by four wins. However, he has an absolute street ahead in the profitability stakes, with $10 each-way on his selections so far yielding a profit of $2,148. The statistics editor is also in front on profitability on the Naps (ie, best bets) table, with his day's top bet having won seven times, with an additional eight minor placings. Wong's selections are a feature of every edition of Racing Post and a glance at his tips for today's Sha Tin meeting show he has gone for some attractive value prices once again.
