Taiwanese scoop big prizes in pop awards
Taiwanese singers beat Canto-pop stars at the 11th Chinese Music Awards by scooping nearly all the major honours last night.
Jay Chou Jie-lun walked away with prizes for best male artist, most popular male artist and best original singer in the Hong Kong/Taiwan category. His hit Common Jasmine Orange was among the top three songs of the year.
Malaysian-born Jasmine Leong Chui-peng was named best female artist, and Taiwanese idol Jolin Tsai was voted most popular female artist. She won the best video prize for Pirate.
Three more Taiwanese acts won prizes. Angela Chang Shao-han was named most popular newcomer, Energy the best group, and Mayday the best band.
The only Hong Kong winner was Canto-pop bad boy Nicholas Tse Ting-fung, with the media choice award. Faye Wong's Rolling Wood was one of the top three songs.
Anson Hu Yanbin was voted top male mainland artist in the awards, staged by China Central Television and Channel V.
