Snippedydooda puts on a spirited show

Sophomore trainer Caspar Fownes figured prominently at both trials at Sha Tin yesterday.

Consistent Snippedydooda, the ageing son of Snippets, got the ball rolling for Fownes, who led from barrier to post with the application of blinkers, a piece of gear he has not competed with.

It was a good trial from Snippedydooda, who won in a slick time of 1 minute, 1.2 seconds. Craig Williams never asked too many questions, but allowed the gelding to run along at a decent clip.

Peter Ng Bik-kuen's Delightful Win caught the eye when making late ground and finishing fourth. He was given a relatively easy time by Anthony Delpech, who allowed him to stretch out in the concluding stages. It was a good piece of work and suggests he is one to keep on the safe side when he next appears.

Fownes won the second trial with Noble Victory (rated 44), who came through the field nicely to hit the wire full of running. It was a good effort considering his current rating, and there is little doubt he is working as well as ever.

Stablemate Liaobuqi was settled near the rear of the field but came home strongly in the final 400 metres. He hasn't shown much potential in his work, so it was an encouraging sign for the Australian import.
