Cash donations of $35 million have been collected by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) from the public, punters and staff to help earthquake and tsunami victims in South Asia. A large number of cheques, cash vouchers, betting tickets and other currencies are still undergoing the clearing and validation process, according to HKJC. The money, along with the club's $10 million donation made earlier at the charity TV show Operation Relief 2005, will go to five organisations, namely Hong Kong Red Cross, World Vision, Oxfam, the United Nation Children's Fund (Unicef) and the Salvation Army. At a cheque presentation ceremony, Ronald Arculli, chairman of the club, expressed gratitude for the donations. 'The donation boxes were soon filled up and we had to replace them frequently,' he said. 'It has truly reflected Hong Kong people's generosity.'
