I read all the news reports about the policy address every year. Frankly, I have no expectations at all. The government always uses the same rhetoric. It  says the economy has improved, and how to improve it further will be the major issue. But I still do not see any improvement in the city's economy.

The only good thing the government has done is to introduce the solo visitor travel scheme.

I know tourism and retail industries  truly benefit from it. Some of my friends' children who are high school graduates manage to get some part-time work in these fields, thanks to the travel scheme.

More jobs have been created because of the policy, and many secondary school graduates do not have to sit around at home and do nothing. At least they can work in restaurants and shops as part-timers.

I hope the government will not introduce a sales tax, because the policy will affect the economy. I agree our sources of tax incomes are too limited.

But I hope the government can introduce new policies step by step and avoid making radical changes in a short period of time. Just like Tung Chee-hwa said, the government tried to push forward new policies too fast.

Mr Tung always says he understands what the lower class is experiencing, but I do not think so. He comes from a very rich family and he has never tasted hardship.

He never has to worry about money for his three meals every day. He just does not know what we are really going through.

He has no idea how hard our lives are. Some children are picking up cans and  cardboard so they can make a few dollars.  The government should take a closer look at our lives and give us appropriate help.

Comprehensive Social Security Assistance is good, but is easily abused. A good example is the Hong Kong couple on CSSA who survived the tsunami in Thailand. We taxpayers are paying for their travel expenses.

We work so hard and are stuck in Hong Kong, but they could go to Thailand. It is just not fair.  The government should tighten the screening process  and check applicants' background more carefully.

We should help the poor, but I am also worried  the system is being abused by those slack kings who waste our money.

Also, the government should  only allow those mainlanders from  good  economic backgrounds and the ability to make a living to come to stay in Hong Kong. About 150 mainlanders come to live in Hong Kong every day.

I welcome them, because we are all Chinese. But most are poor and their lives will be even harder once they arrive in Hong Kong.

We taxpayers cannot take care of them all the time. Some are simply taking advantage of our hard work.

I think Lam Woon-kwong made a smart decision to quit from Mr Tung's staff. Take his former colleagues for example, such as [former financial secretary] Antony Leung Kam-chung  and [former secretary of security]   Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee.

They suffered a lot from negative news reports before they resigned.  Mr Lam did the right thing, because he knew well that his  affair would be featured in newspaper and magazines for a while.

He would have had to endure a lot of embarrassment. He also knew well that would have had to step down at the end. So he tried to make this short and less painful for himself.

I personally think he should not have to resign because of the reports.  I have seen those pictures in a magazine.

The pictures show nothing.  The pictures just show that they were sitting at a hotel lobby. But  he made a smart choice.
