Disney Princess Series

What  girl has never dreamed  of being a princess? And  what mother can resist the temptation of indulging the fantasy now and again - even  if she knows princesses don't always live 'happily ever after'. Not surprisingly, Disney - that Princess specialist - has some ideas about how to help the dream live on.

Disney Princess Party (Vol 1)  - from the Disney Princess Series of DVDs - makes party planning a piece of cake, and is a fun way to get your daughter involved. Planning features include recipes, tips for making invitations and other arts-and-crafts activities.

And when the party starts, there are eight  games,  such as Ariel's Scavenger Hunt, Jasmine Says and a version of Frozen Statues  that will have the girls dancing until Maleficent casts her sleeping spell.

Other activities include story time, courtesy of the book-loving Belle, a tiara-making activity led by Cinderella, and two short stories: Mrs Potts' Party and Message in a Bottle.  There's even a catchy new Disney song - sung by all the Disney Princesses - called If You Can Dream.

Disney Princess Stories (Vol 1: A Gift from the Heart) is a good way to help your child learn  to read. There are four stories, based on the adventures of Ariel, Belle, Cinderella and Jasmine, that include a read-along mode. There's also a so-called magic wand mode that lets your child interact with the story, hear additional dialogue and hear what the characters are thinking.

Bonus features include the game How to Be a Princess, a segment (not animated) showing  how to make Princess charm bracelets, and  a new music video, If You Can Dream.

Disney Princess Sing Along Songs (Once Upon a Dream) is a  good alternative for those  who cringe when their five-year-olds lip-synch Britney Spears or Jennifer Simpson. The DVD karaoke song list has 16 tracks, including  Ariel singing Part  of Your World and Sleeping Beauty singing Once Upon a Dream.  Three of the tracks are shot with a group of  boys and girls dancing along,  and are sung by  the likes of Brooke Allison, Jump5 and No Secrets. Get on your dancing shoes.

Verdict: A right royal blast.
