THE Spanish group Neocantes will perform at the Fringe Club on Friday and Saturday. The recitals will feature four young singers (soprano, contratenor, tenor and bass) from this group which was founded 10 years ago and has specialised in performing ancient music from Spain. The Hong Kong recitals are part of the group's tour which will also include Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, Manila and Jakarta. On Friday, Neocantes will perform a programme devoted to secular Renaissance music of Spain (16th century) from two different collections: Archives of Madrid Royal Palace and Archives of the Duke of Medinaceli. On Saturday, the recital will focus on Las Ensaladas (the Slads) by composer Mateo Flecha. The Salads are a unique Spanish musical form. Several different styles of compositions were mixed with sacred themes so as to make them popular. They give a good sense of humour. The group has given recitals all over Spain, in more than 20 European countries, and also in America and in Asia. They have taken part in numerous festivals of ancient chamber music. The group toured Europe to commemorate the presidency of Spain and has accompanied the king and queen of Spain on official visits. The recitals will be held at the Fringe Club, 2 Lower Albert Road, Central, Hong Kong at 8 pm. Tickets at $70 and $60 (Fringe members and students) are available now at the Fringe Club.
