'If I was going to study in Hong Kong, I was definitely going to do it at HKUST,' the Hewlett Associates analyst said. 'The most important reasons were its reputation and the quality of the professors. I was also attracted by the international exposure and connections the school offers.'

The stellar rankings of the university's business school played a key role in her decision to study there. 'There are regular ranking reports in the Financial Times and Business Week,' Ms Yu said. 'HKUST usually has a high reputation for its business school compared with others in Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia. Since I decided to pursue an MBA in Hong Kong and plan to develop my career in Hong Kong, HKUST was my preferred choice.'

Ms Yu said rankings were a core factor when choosing a business school because they were an overall indicator of how good its MBA programme was. But they were not the only factor.

'I perceive MBA programmes as a package, a combination of a future career network, the quality of the curriculum and professors, its ranking, international exchange experiences and other intangible benefits such as logical thinking,' she said.
