ADJUSTING TO THE changes caused by uprooting and moving to another country can be daunting, and it can take months to settle into a new way of life.

After finishing her A-levels at West Island School, second-year undergraduate student Gloria Lai said it was logical to continue her education in Britain.

Having family in London and school friends who also chose to study in the country made her decision easy, but she still suffered the common problems of living away from home for the first time.

Ms Lai is studying film and television at Warwick University, which she chose because of its reputation for offering one of the best film courses in Britain and its extensive extracurricular activities.

'This was extremely important to me, because I intended to keep up my interests while I was in university,' Ms Lai said.

She has taken part in four musicals, attends weekly dance classes and takes voice classes with resident vocal tutors.

She has high ambitions of a career in the entertainment industry and, after graduating from Warwick, hopes to attend a performing arts school in London or New York.
