Finally, there is something positive to say about Alexander - it has a good soundtrack by Vangelis, who is best known for his Oscar-winning score for Chariots of Fire and the crowd-pleasing 2002 World Cup anthem.
One of the joys of listening to this soundtrack is that it sounds more like a concept album than just a film score. Composed, produced and performed by this Greek-American composer, the soundtrack has a haunting beauty similar to that of spiritual music.
The album opens with grandiose tracks with triumphant themes celebrating the glories of a great conqueror. But the highlight of this album are the tracks that blend New Age, electronic and dance music elements. These tracks are Vangelis at his best - exotic, hypnotic and impeccable.
Roxane's Veil, featuring Vanessa Mae on violin, is a revelation. Mae plays with passion and profound sadness. It is worth buying this CD for this track alone.
