It seems that Hong Kong is ready to believe just about anything in these uncertain times. Consider how a small hint offered by the Thai sage White Dragon King turned into a major scare - or, at least, a major tabloid story. When the prophet, aka Chau Yum-nam, reportedly predicted a disaster for Hong Kong on February 8, the story snowballed on the internet, with dire warnings. The King, after all, has dozens of celebrities as devotees, including Jackie Chan, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, and Eric Tsang Chi-wai. Everyone was advised to stay home on the night of February 8 - the day before the Year of the Rooster starts - because the King forecast that 'something bad' would happen in Hong Kong after 9pm. This drew scores of journalists to Thailand to meet the guru, who admitted that he had told one of his Hong Kong believers not to go out on February 8, but the advice was not intended for the general populous. He said Hong Kong would be just fine in 2005. So CitySeen advises everyone to get out and celebrate the new year.
