We all know that the present is today and the future is tomorrow. We use the present tense to talk about actions that are happening now and we use the future tense to talk about actions that will happen in the future. That is easy to understand. But wait a minute . . . look at the sentence below.
Next Thursday, Eddie is flying to Japan on business.
'Next Thursday' is definitely in the future, so why is the present tense (is flying) correct when the action of the sentence is in the future?
Look at this conversation between Sandy and Calvin.
Sandy: What are you doing next week?
Calvin: Next Monday I am playing tennis after school and Tuesday evening I am going to the cinema with Maggie.
