PARODY PLAY

Experimental theatre collective Zuni Icosahedron will restage Cantonese parody The Great Entertainer after its well-received  run in October.

Directed by Edward Lam Yik-wah and Mathias Woo Yan-wai, the show features veteran theatre actor Jim Chim Shui-man and Canto-pop star Gigi Leung Wing-kei. It  makes fun of   showbiz by mocking  pop idols and  television programmes.

The performance will be staged from tomorrow to Sunday and from January 26 to 30 at 8pm in the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Tickets priced at $280, $220, $160, $100, with half-price concessions for students, are available from Urbtix on 2734 9009.

GERMAN OPERA

Edo de Waart, renowned master of the music of Strauss, will be joined by a cast of international  singers and more than  100 orchestral musicians in the opera Salome.

Salome  tells the story of a self-absorbed princess - played by leading British soprano Susan Bullock - and her obsession with John the Baptist.

The opera will be performed in German with Chinese and English surtitles. It will be staged at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre's Concert Hall today, Saturday and January 24, at 8pm. Tickets cost $680, $480, $340 and $220, with half-price concessions for students, and are available from Urbtix.

DANCE PERFORMANCE

The Red Star Dance Company of the PLA Academy of Art will stage a selection of dance works in Fragrance Through the Generations tomorrow and Saturday at 8pm in  the Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium and the Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium, respectively.

Founded in 1960, the troupe comprises dancers who are highly skilled in Chinese and modern dance. In this show, they will perform some of the award-winning Chinese ethnic and modern dances including Sword Dance and Floating in the Sky. Tickets cost $160, $120 and $80, with half-price concessions  for students, and can be obtained from Urbtix.
