I was in South Korea recently. All the rage there are beauty salons that are able to create beautiful full, long eyelashes on Asian eyes. Can you tell me if there is anyone in Hong Kong that offers this service?
Lashing Out, Jordan
The Dictator rules: Wow, are you a trend spotter? Obviously not. I wrote about eyelash extensions - sometimes called 'eyelash tabbing' - years ago. Since the lady we recommended is no longer in town, we've found some other specialists. At Beaute Par Zai (suite 901, Queen's Place, 74 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2524 1272; www.spabpz.com), extensions can be applied to upper lashes for about $390 in 25 to 35 minutes. They do lower lashes for an extra $50. The extensions come in four sizes, in black, blue or purple, are applied with an all natural glue and should last for about three weeks if treated right (no mascara, no rubbing). They assure us that even those with contacts and sensitive eyes can have them done. Other salons offering this service include Toni & Guy ($450; 15 Wyndham Street, Central, tel: 2801 7870) and Nail Nail ($400; 14 On Lan Street, Central, tel: 2521 4088). Oh, and they even do this thing called 'manicures'. I hear they're all the rage, too.
I'm glad to see ballet shoes are back in fashion, but I didn't save the ones I bought in the late 1980s. Where can I get a nice gold pair?
Twinkle Toes, Tin Hau
The Dictator: Metallic gold? Oh no, please tell me you gave away the big shoulder pads and orbit-worthy earrings, too. For classic, super lightweight ballerinas, choose from gold, pale gold and dark gold by French Sole ($790; Seibu, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2971 3838).
