Fifteen-year-old Hannah beats her own Hong Kong mark for the 100 metres at festival in Sydney

Leading SAR swimmer Hannah Wilson set a Hong Kong record in the 100 metres freestyle as she powered her way to a gold medal at the 2005 Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney.

Wilson, the 15-year-old prodigy who almost didn't make it to last year's Athens Olympics because of a passport eligibility issue, won a gold medal in the women's 100 metres freestyle 'A' final on Friday in a Hong Kong record time of 56.63 seconds.

Wilson's new time in the blue riband event bettered her previous mark of 57.33 seconds set in the heats during the Athens Olympics. She then returned to the pool 24 hours later to anchor the SAR team to a bronze medal in the women's 400 metres freestyle relay.

Wilson's gold medal-winning performance set the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre alight as she beat Canada's Erica Morningstar and third-placed Dingjan Lisande of Australia.

Wilson is competing in the long-course meeting, which is part of the festival held every two years and is being contested by some of the best under-18 swimmers from around the world.
