Customs seizes 240,000 suspected pirated DVDs

Updated at 5.12pm: Customs has seized a total of 240,000 suspected pirated DVDs - worth up to $6 million, a spokesman said on Wednesday.

He said custom officers on Thursday raided a storage centre for the suspected pirated DVDs in a commercial unit in Kwun Tong.

They seized about 230,000 DVDs of Japanese cartoons, worth about $5.75 million.

Two men and two women, aged 28 to 43, were arrested.

The spokesman said that in a follow-up operation, officers raided a logistics company in Sha Tin and seized 10,000 suspected pirated DVDs of Japanese cartoons, worth about $250,000.

The spokesman said the logistics company was believed to be exporting the DVDs to the United States.
