Fishermen are strongly opposed to the idea of a two-month ban in waters around Hong Kong, says the legislator representing the agriculture and fisheries sector. Wong Yung-kan also criticised the consultation paper for failing to take the interests of fishermen into account. 'I don't think the government has offered anything constructive in the paper. The moratorium is not the best resort because we cannot just stop our business and do nothing while the mainlanders are destroying marine resources. Mr Wong said the government had missed an opportunity to try to help the industry change course. 'Could fishermen be engaged in ecotourism as well, for example?'
