Video-conferencing specialist Polycom says its new VSX 6000 system will meet the needs of companies that want high-quality video-based collaboration on a limited budget. The entry-level video-conferencing device was designed to serve smaller, internet-ready conference rooms, compared with the areas that Polycom's earlier released VSX 7000 and VSX 8000 systems are used on. The VSX 6000 offers top-notch audio fidelity with its 14 kilohertz, 360-degree voice pickup from the system's array of microphones. It also has a room-filling, 14KHz StereoSurround feature. But at US$5,499 per unit plus a year's hardware warranty and software updates, the VSX 6000 could still be quite a tall order to fill for many firms.
