So much for the assumption that on the internet nobody knows you are a dog. At datemypet.com, dogs - or at least their owners - openly reveal their identities in the search for love.
And not just dogs - fish, tigers, 'exotics', you name it, are in on the act too. But it does seem to be mostly dogs.
So what are the prospects for a connected 21st-century critter on the prowl? To find out, I hit the site and pose as a love-hungry 'reptile'. I state that I am after a horse and portray myself as a female seeking both stallions and mares between the ages of 18 and 32 in the New York area.
Next comes the classic dilemma. Do I insist on a photo?
To ensure I get at least one hit, I decide against. Click. The search engine churns.
Guess how many results scroll up? I may as well have tapped the word sex into Google. I am overwhelmed with results.
