IT is not difficult to avoid bad habits, such as cigarette smoking or a junk food addiction, which deteriorate our health, if we develop a healthy lifestyle when we are young, says Dr Lee Siu-hung, Director of Health of the Hong Kong Government.

Mr Lee was a guest of honour at a joint-school graduation day for the Lung Kong World Federation School Limited held recently at Lau Wong Fat Secondary School.

There were four schools taking part in the graduation ceremony: Lau Wong Fat Secondary school, Mrs Fung Yiu Hing Memorial Primary School, Lau Tak Yung Memorial Primary School and Wong Yiu Nam Primary School.

While congratulating the graduates, Mr Lee said he hoped they would remember what they had been taught and continue to work diligently.

He also had advice to give on how to maintain good health into adulthood.

''Out of curiosity and attracted by advertising promises of instant fashion credibility, inexperienced youngsters are often tempted to try smoking,'' Mr Lee said. ''Getting addicted to cigarette smoking is easy, but getting away from it is not.'' In addition to keeping free of dangerous habits like smoking, Mr Lee cautioned against consuming too much high-fat, high-calorie food. These foods can contribute to such life-threatening conditions as cancer, heart disease and high blood pressure.
