Where can I get a dress dyed another colour? I asked my dry cleaners, but they don't offer this service.

The Dictator rules: A question that plagues me. Basically, you can't, although dry cleaners in other countries sometimes do this. Bridal salons (yes, some brides have the bad taste to re-use the gown) are also inundated with such requests. Unfortunately, the experts at Brides & Gowns (tel: 2873 5558) say dyeing existing garments is tricky. Some fabrics shrink in the process, and linings and threads respond completely differently. Zippers and other details need to be changed completely to match the new colour. They reason, in a city full of affordable and talented tailors, why not just have it copied? (The stubborn should look in the back of bridal magazines where dyeing services in other countries are listed.) Try your luck with tailors. We've finally found one who will attempt a dye job: Irene Fashions (3/F, 86 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2850 5635). However, they also warn it's a risky business and provide no guarantees of a favourable result. You can see for yourself, one week and less than $200 later. I'd just ask them to copy it.
I'm looking for some purple tights, but have only found bright purple, which makes my legs look bigger, or fishnets, which make them look bruised.
