Protest march seeks better deal for workers

About 30 people from the Neighbourhood and Worker's Service Centre marched to the government headquarters from Chater Garden yesterday to protest for workers' rights.

The organisation called for the creation of a minimum wage and for limits on working hours. Representatives said the economy was improving, but workers were being denied the benefits.

Organisation spokeswoman Sze Lai-shan said many of the 380,000 mainland immigrants who had arrived in the past seven years experienced discrimination when trying to find jobs and even while shopping. She added it was the government's responsibility to protect them. The consultation on legislation to ban race discrimination ends tomorrow.
