Achievements: At the age of 15, goalkeeper Hing-kit is the youngest member of the Hong Kong

under-19 squad.

He played all three matches in an international youth tournament at Mongkok Stadium and the Sports Institute in Sha Tin recently. His brave and agile performance helped the SAR steal a surprise 1-1 draw against the United Arab Emirates.

Hing-kit is first-choice goalie for the Hong Kong 09 team, which is competing in the local Third Division. They are top of the table and expect to gain promotion to the Second Division this year. Players from this team are being groomed to represent Hong Kong at the 2009 East Asian Games.

Soundbite: 'As goalkeeper I must always concentrate. I have to watch and study the game closely. I think it is a very important position in the team. My performance can make the difference between winning or losing.'

Interests: Hing-kit follows football news in the media and is a big fan of Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. He rates former Manchester United keeper Peter Schmeichel as the greatest of all time because of his quick reflexes and shot-stopping ability.

From his coach: 'I spotted him playing for his district team Wong Tai Sin last season and saw he had potential,' said Hong Kong joint head coach Tsang Wai-chung.

'At first we put him in the under-16 team but I realised he could improve quickly if we played him at a higher level. He deserves it. His timing and ability to close down space is much better than it was. He fits in well, and the more he trains, the better he gets.'

Ambitions: Hing-kit hopes the Hong Kong 09 team will ultimately reach the summit of local football and compete with the best in the First Division. He will continue training and aims to earn a professional contract when he finishes school.



Goalkeeper hopes to help his team reach the top
