THERE is no sign of a slowdown in the territory's luxury car market, as shown by the launch of the new Saab 900 by Swedish Motors.

Swedish Motors said it had already received orders for some 130 Saab 900 cars even before the launch yesterday.

Company officials were confident that by the end of the year about 500 of the new model would be sold.

Chairman Christer Agell said: ''We are confident this vehicle, with its emphasis on sophisticated styling and safety, will appeal to the discerning luxury car buyer in Hong Kong.'' So far this year, Swedish Motors had sold about 1,200 Saab cars, he said.

Swedish Motors is wholly owned by the Ankor Group, whose subsidiaries include EuroMotors and EuroTruck.

EuroMotors is the exclusive distributor for Opel vehicles in Hong Kong and Macau while EuroTruck exclusively distributes Iveco commercial vehicles in Hong Kong, Macau and southern China.

It is understood Ankor is seeking a stock market listing by the end of the year, but Mr Agell refused to comment.
