Did Richard Nixon have an illicit love affair with a beautiful Hong Kong woman? No one knows for certain, but the circumstantial evidence is enticing.

During an official visit to Hong Kong in 1958, then US vice-president Nixon was rumoured to have had an affair with a beautiful Chinese cocktail waitress named Marianna Liu, who reportedly worked in the Hilton Hotel.

Nixon's term as vice-president ended in 1960, but he reportedly returned again to Hong Kong in 1964, 1965 and 1966, to see Ms Liu. On one such visit, Nixon and his good friend, Miami millionaire Bebe Rebozo, visited Ms Liu at The Den, the cocktail lounge where she worked.

Later that evening, the waitress and a friend reportedly visited the men in their hotel suite. This story has never been confirmed and Ms Liu has always denied it. But in 1969, she emigrated to California. As her new home, she chose the small town of Whittier, which happens to be Nixon's home town.
