Flowers aren't everything

Flowers may seem a pretty safe choice for a Valentine's Day gift, but it's still advisable to do some research before sending them - and not just because your honey may be allergic to pollen.

For one thing, if your Valentine happens to be supermodel Vanessa Yeung Tsang (above), CitySeen strongly suggests you forget about the 12 red roses; they may bring back memories of a rather shocking and embarrassing February 14.

'A fellow schoolmate at university asked me out on February 14 one year and I didn't realise it was Valentine's Day. I thought he asked me out just to do school work,' Yeung told CitySeen. 'When I met him, he gave me a big bunch of red roses and I was so shocked ... I quickly caught a cab home because he was not my cup of tea.'

For Yeung - who is single - peonies do the trick but she says she doesn't need flowers on Valentine's Day.
