Junior squash stars face tough challenge

Rising star Annie Au Wing-chi is looking to challenge senior players in the Buler Squash Challenge Cup, which starts today at the Hong Kong Squash Centre.

The Jockey Club Ti-I College (Ti-I) student will play Belilios Public School's Leung Shin-nga in the first round of the qualifiers.

The winner will face Malaysian Sally Looi, world ranked No 85, in the second round before advancing to the main draw which starts on Thursday.

Wing-chi helped the SAR girls clinch the team gold medal at last month's Asian Junior Championships in Chennai, India, where she also won a silver in the individual event, losing to India's Joshana Chinappa in the final.

Earlier, she won the prestigious Scottish Junior Open Championships in Edinburgh and snatched the silver medal in the highly rated British Junior Squash Open in Sheffield.

She is confident of proceeding to the main draw and ready to challenge the older players.
