A MAN who managed a gambling establishment was fined $15,000 and given a suspended sentence in Eastern Court yesterday.
Chan Lap, 35, who admitted managing the establishment was given a three-month jail term suspended for 12 months and fined $10,000. He was also fined $5,000 for permitting a place to be used as a gambling establishment.
Lam Yiu-hoi, 38, was fined $5,000 and also given a three-month sentence suspended for 12 months when he pleaded guilty to assisting in managing of a gambling establishment.
He was fined a further $5,000 for permitting a place to be used as a gambling establishment.
Fourteen other defendants who admitted gambling were fined between $700 to $1,000.
Magistrate Michael Hill heard that the police raided the premises at 305 Shau Kei Wan Road at about 6.45 pm on Monday.
