HONG Kong's Kart Grand Prix, scheduled for November 25 to 28 at Victoria Park, has been cancelled, writes Norideen Kitchell. The territory's Kart Club ran into difficulties with the noise control division of the Environmental Protection Department, which has refused to issue a permit for the event to go ahead. Because of the delay in confirming the venue, the club failed to receive sanctioning from the International Automobile Federation (FIA). The FIA also demanded that the track and facilities at the makeshift course be ready for inspection by the Wednesday before the event, a deadline the club could not meet. The Grand Prix, which would have been the 27th if it had been held, is publicised as a major attraction on the Hong Kong Tourist Association's yearly calendar.
