Help is at hand for students who are studying for their HKCEE English examination. Hong Kong CyberU, the online education arm of Polytechnic University (PolyU), will introduce a preparatory HKCEE English course which will make use of a 24-hour online oral classroom.
The four-month course, which will be launched next month, was developed by English lecturers from the Hong Kong Community College (HKCC) of PolyU.
It is divided into four parts: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The reading and writing courses comprise eight units, each focusing on Hong Kong-related topics ranging from entertainment, art, education, mass media, food and health, travel and tourism, the environment and technology.
When students complete each unit, they will take a mock exam and check their results online. They can also upload their work to be reviewed by HKCC lecturers.
After each unit is completed, students attend a two-hour tutorial at PolyU.
Jointly launched by Englishtown, a Hong Kong-based online language school, the course also gives students access to Englishtown's online conversation class and allows them to interact in real time with a native English-speaking teacher.
Students take a placement test to evaluate their English proficiency before being assigned to a class of an appropriate level. Comprising 12 levels, the conversation classes are in the form of one-to-one private lessons or group lessons with three to eight students.
