SCHRODERS IS THE winner of four trophies in the awards programme. The global investment management company, which last year celebrated its 200th birthday, proved to be multitalented by claiming two equity crowns - in the Hong Kong and Euroland categories over three years - and two fixed income crowns in the euro-denominated category over three years and US-dollar category over five years.

Locally, the Schroder ISF Hong Kong Equity fund has delivered a strong 26 per cent return in the past year, versus a sector average of 17.1 per cent, and returned an impressive 84.9 per cent over three years, against a sector average of 58.3 per cent.

'[The Hong Kong market was] obviously buoyant - however with the usual degree of volatility we have come to expect here,' said Hong Kong equities head Robin Parbrook.

'Volatility gave the fund a good opportunity to pick up some interesting names during the sharp May sell-off. Equally well, the frothy end-of-year rally provided some good profit-taking opportunities.'

The biggest positive contributors to the fund's performance last year were its positions in the various Jardine Matheson Group companies, Mr Parbrook said.

'We were also helped by the re-rating of the small and mid-cap banks, where the fund had a significant weighting.

The fund also had large positions in some of the property investors such as Swire Pacific, Hang Lung Group and Kerry, where the tightening supply situation in the retail and office markets led to a re-rating.
