Fatbag, the Demon Vacuum Cleaner; I'm telling you, They're Aliens; My Mum's Going to Explode; Lightning Lucy and Let's do the Pharaoh
Jeremy Strong has a talent for titles. The content is just as wild. The Hundred-Mile-an-Hour-Dog, which won the 1997 Children's Book Award, has the stuff to make children roll on the floor with laughter. Streaker, the dog in question, is 'a mixture of greyhound, Ferrari and whirlwind with a woof attached'. Trevor, Streaker's boy owner, cannot control him and the high-powered pooch bowls over a posh local beauty.
Trevor's father, the local police superintendent, decrees that Streaker be trained to the exacting standards of professional police dogs. Local bully Charlie Smugg bets Trevor that Streaker cannot beat his Alsatians in an agility test at the local dog show.
If Streaker loses, Trevor will be in for a hard time from Smugg. By way of training, Trevor desperately puts Streaker on roller skates.
Another rattling Strong read is There's a Viking in My Bed. The book consists of three Viking-themed stories, which were screened on BBC Children's television.
Sigurd, an accident-prone Norse yob who invades the 21st century, gives the family that runs The Viking Hotel the jitters with exploits that range from putting plates in the washing machine to bathing in clothes and herding pigs upstairs.
