Name: Chiu Ho-fai

Achievements: Ho-fai impressed at  Buler Squash Challenge Cup earlier this month where he reached the quarter-finals. It is a professional tournament featuring players ranked among the world's top 100, and it was remarkable for a  junior to reach the last eight.

The 18-year-old raised eyebrows when he qualified for the main draw, and then surprised everybody when he beat fellow Hongkonger Roger Ngan in the first round. He lost to Australian Glenn Keenan, ranked No 99 in the world,  in straight sets.

The teenager's game has improved in recent months after competing in top overseas tournaments such as the British and Scottish junior opens. He helped the Hong Kong team win a bronze medal at the Asian Junior Championships in India in January. He is the Hong Kong schools champion and was first runner-up in the Hong Kong Closed Championships last year.

Soundbite: 'Playing in the big competitions encourages me to try harder. It is an important experience and makes me want to win even more.'

From his coach: 'He is very focused and committed no matter how big the tournament is,' said Hong Kong squash coach Tim Yan Tsz-keung. 'Whether it is a junior, senior, local or international event, he will give 100 per cent and never give up. He is fast and fit. He has the talent to be a top senior player in the future, but he needs to work on his speed and hit with more power.'

Interests: Ho-fai  lives on Lantau and most of his time is taken up by  travelling, squash training and homework.

Ambitions: Like his brother Chiu Ho-ming, who won a squash scholarship to Yale University,

Ho-fai wants to balance his sport and studies. He is considering studying economics at university.
