RICHARD Kan aims to celebrate a landmark in his personal life by reinforcing his standing as Hong Kong's premier professional golfer when the 1993 Order of Merit season tees off at Discovery Bay this morning. The dedicated 33-year-old allowed himself a rare day away from the practice range on Friday, when he married Fiona Lau Wai-han. But there was no immediate honeymoon for the international representative, who was back to work the following day preparing to defend his Hong Kong Professional Golfers' Association title. ''I need to win some money to pay for the wedding party,'' said Kan, who will take his wife to Disneyland in America next month when he competes alongside the game's top players in the World Cup in Orlando. By the time he departs for the US, Kan hopes to be in a familiar position on top of the domestic merit standings. The biggest threat to Kan's merit hopes this year is again likely to come from many-time national champion Yau Sui-ming, with whom he will team up at the World Cup. There will also be considerable interest in the performances of Tang Man-kee, who won the 1992 Golden Harvest PGA Invitational Championship. Dominique Boulet, the other member of Hong Kong's unofficial leading foursome, will miss today's 36-hole tournament at Discovery Bay as he is currently in Europe attempting to win a place at the European Tour School.
