The deadline for teams to register for The Bonaqua Youth Adventure Race next month has been extended to March 31.
So far, 50 two-member teams have signed up for the multi-sport challenge aimed at those aged between 11 and 18. There is room for another 50 daring teams who want to test their skills.
'We are at about 50 per cent [capacity] at the moment which I think is due to Hong Kong's last-minute mentality,' said race director Keith Noyes.
'We are going to extend the entry deadline to March 31. A February 28 deadline was never realistic in hindsight, given that the race is not until April 16.'
Free pre-race training will be offered to all teams who sign up for the event. The race will include trail running, abseiling, rock scrambling, kayaking, swimming, map reading and some mystery tests designed to promote teamwork. The total distance is not confirmed, but it should be about 10 kilometres.
Basic abseiling, map-reading and kayaking skills will be taught at a training session at Hong Kong International School (HKIS) on April 9. The abseiling training is compulsory.
