Canto goes Mando as Cheung returns to town with hit musical

The world's first original Canto-pop musical will return to Hong Kong next month - in Mandarin.

Jacky Cheung Hok-yau's ground-breaking Snow.Wolf.Lake, which has been on tour on the mainland with a mostly mainland cast, will show at the Coliseum from April 15 to 20.

Cantonese subtitles will be projected to help the audience follow the words.

Cheung plays his original role as Wolf, the poor gardener who has an ill-fated relationship with Snow, the daughter of his rich boss.

However, the female lead originally played by local Canto-pop star Sandy Lam Yik-lin will be shared by mainland vocalist Tang Can and Taiwanese singer Evonne Hsu.

The musical, which created a sensation in 1997, has toured four mainland cities since December.
