One of the Hollywood-based producers of Oscar-winner Million Dollar Baby is working with a local director on a musical to be released in August.
Andre Morgan and director Peter Chan Ho-sun are co-producing Perhaps Love, which is being filmed in Beijing and Shanghai.
The US$10 million Putonghua film stars Japanese-Taiwanese star Takeshi Kaneshiro (House of Flying Daggers), mainland actress Zhou Xun and two other big stars to be announced soon.
It is the first Putonghua musical since the 1960s. The story revolves around a love triangle during the making of a musical.
Other crew members include award-winning cinematographer Christopher Doyle and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon's Oscar-winning cinematographer Peter Pau Tak-hei.
Mr Morgan, who worked with Raymond Chow Ting-hsing at Golden Harvest in the 1970s producing Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon, is optimistic about the mainland market.
