Emiliana Torrini possesses one of the greatest musical instruments in the world - her crystal clear voice. In the 27-year-old singer/songwriter's second studio offering, Fisherman's Woman, she charms audiences with her dreamy voice in stripped down acoustic sets. Torrini is of Italian and Icelandic decent, but lives in England. She made her name by singing Gollum's Song on the soundtrack of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. She also co-wrote Kylie Minogue's number one hit, Slow. The album, featuring 12 down-tempo tracks, sees Torrini going back to basics. The music, mainly guitar riffs with a light touch of piano, is structurally simple yet melodic. The opener Nothing Brings me Down sets an affectionate scene with Torrini's sweet whisper in an almost bare acoustic background. Sunny Road is a relatively upbeat and comforting track. Although being mainly about loss, the songs are saved from being depressing by Torrini's angelic voice.
