Tourist found dead on stairs

A German tourist has been found dead on the staircase of a building in Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, with cuts to his head and his clothing torn.

The 26-year-old was found yesterday in Mirador Mansion, a popular hangout for backpackers, at 3am by two men, who then alerted police.

'We cannot say for certain at this stage of the investigation whether the death is suspicious or not,' a police spokesman said.

'He had wounds and his clothes were ripped, but he had not lost his valuables.'

More clues may emerge when a postmortem examination is conducted today.

Police are still not sure whether the German died after falling down the stairs, if he was attacked, or whether he died in other criminal circumstances.
