Stephen Chow Sing-chi's comedy blockbuster Kung Fu Hustle won best film and best supporting actor awards at the 10th Golden Bauhinia Awards last night but not the coveted best actor and director prizes.
Tony Leung Chiu-wai (2046) beat Chow and Andy Lau Tak-wah (A World Without Thieves) in the best actor category. Despite having numerous best actor awards under his belt, including Cannes, Leung said he was excited by the win.
'Every time I win I'm happy. Each role is different and I've spent a lot of time and effort,' he said.
In response to beating Lau again, Leung said: 'Receiving a nomination is already a form of recognition. The rest is only a matter of luck. Perhaps I'm luckier.'
Taiwanese actress Rene Liu Ruo-ying, the lead of mainland box office hit A World Without Thieves by Feng Xiaogang, was named best actress.
Kung Fu Hustle's Yuen Qiu lost out in the best supporting actress category to Bai Ling, star of Fruit Chan's horror flick Dumplings - Three ... Extremes.
Yuen Wah, who portrayed a martial arts master in Kung Fu Hustle, won the best supporting actor award.
