All-in-one school
Students at a through-train school, scheduled to open in September next year, will be taught by academic staff at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).
The Wong Kam Fai Secondary & Primary School (WKFSPS), situated next to HKBU's Shek Mun campus in Ma On Shan, will be the first school to be operated by a local university. It will link up with the existing HKBU kindergarten in Kowloon Tong to become a through-train school.
Spanning 12,000 square metres, the primary and secondary sections will share a common entrance, library, an assembly hall which can accommodate 1,000 students, and two sports fields.
The classrooms will be situated in a central courtyard to facilitate natural lighting and ventilation. There will also be a swimming pool, and students will be able to use the canteen on the HKBU campus.
The HKBU has appointed former Homantin Government Secondary School (HGSS) principal, Lilian Chan Lui Ling-yee, as head of the new school. During her days at HGSS, she focused on arts education to enhance students' moral development.
At a press conference, Ms Chan said all graduates from the HKBU kindergarten would be admitted to the new primary school, while the first batch of secondary students would be recruited from around the territory.
'We are planning to open Primary One and Form One, and perhaps a couple of Primary Two and Three classes for the first year. Eventually, we will have 30 classes in both primary and secondary sections,' she said. 'As we have a responsibility to take care of our kindergarten graduates, there may not be too many Primary One vacancies for pupils from other kindergartens.'
