Young striker Chan Siu-ki scored a record seven goals as Hong Kong thrashed minnows Guam 15-0 in the preliminary round of the East Asian Football Championships in Taipei on Monday. Hong Kong scored 12 goals in the first half to set a new record for the national team. Chan's seven strikes beat the previous best - five goals scored by Mak Kin-fun in an 8-0 victory over the same opponents in 1985. Wong Chun-yue scored a hat-trick, Chan Yiu-lun was on target twice, Chan Wai-ho and Poon Man-tik got one each, and the other was an own goal. Having crushed Mongolia 6-0 last Saturday, the SAR now have a chance to make it three straight wins against Taiwan on Friday. North Korea hammered Mongolia 6-0 on Monday in another preliminary round match. Today, Taiwan play North Korea and Mongolia take on Guam.
