What is it? It would be better to ask, what are they? They're two restaurants sharing one entrance: Lumiere is Sichuan and South American; Cuisine Cuisine serves Cantonese.

Sichuan and South American? Sounds unappetising but it's not because the chefs don't combine the two cuisines in one dish; rather, they have one cuisine as the main element and use the other to subtly complement it.

Ambience: Both restaurants are in a huge, high-ceilinged space with lots of room between tables. Tables by the window offer a great harbour view.

Clientele: As with all the newest restaurants in the IFC, both places are filled with expensively dressed beautiful people who don't mind spending up to $500 for dinner without wine.

Signature dishes: For Lumiere (pictured top), the staff will probably recommend Sichuan-style chicken salad ($78), seafood ceviche ($98), seared Chilean seabass ($220), jumbo crab claws ($160), pan-seared scallop cakes ($190), dan dan mien ($48) and the dessert platter (fried doughnuts, chocolate mousse, mini cold souffle and chilli pepper ice cream, $148). For Cuisine Cuisine they'll recommend deep-fried preserved eggs wrapped in minced fish ($48), roasted lamb chops with preserved red bean curd sauce ($200), steamed shrimp dumpling ($36 each) and the sauteed imperial bird's nest with egg white ($140).
