Sun Hei went on a second-half goal-scoring spree as they buried visiting club Valencia of the Maldives 6-1 in group D action of the AFC Cup at Mongkok Stadium last night.
The Hong Kong league champions were playing in the competition for the first time, but made sure it was a debut to remember as they gave themselves a handy lead for their away tie next month.
However, Sun Hei's next match will be away to Singapore's Tampines Rovers next Wednesday.
After defender Carlo Hartwig gave Sun Hei a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute from a free-kick, the Hong Kong club went to work in the second half with Lau Chi-keung scoring 12 minutes after the break to make it 2-0.
Julius Akosah then scored a brace in the 58th and 72nd minutes before Valencia replied with a goal from Kvasz Krisztain in the 80th minute. Two more goals from Sun Hei sealed the issue with Poon Man-tik scoring from another free-kick in the 89th minute before Chu Siu-kei completed the rout two minutes into injury time to make the final score 6-1.
Sun Hei coach Koo Luam Khen was satisfied with the result as his side proved too strong for the visitors, who are the 'treble' champions back home.
