GEC Plessey Semiconductors (GPS) has launched a VCR programming chip that is fully compatible with the Video Plus/ShowView Instant Video Programming technology from Gemstar.
The MV1821 works with both the Programme Delivery Control (PDC) and the Video Programming System (VPS).
It receives a unique programme identification code, which is used to automatically start and stop the recording of the required programme.
Gemstar's programme identification code is sent by typing in the Video Plus/ShowView number for the required programme.
As many functions as possible have been incorporated on-chip.
The MV1821 can also be used in televisions without teletext to identify the channel when the user is first setting up the tuning. The MV1821 is available in DP and MP packages.
