A walkathon organised by students has raised $200,000 for Operation Smile, which helps children born with facial deformities.
Organised by Hong Kong International School (HKIS)'s Operation Smile Club and assisted by Chinese International School, Diocesan Boys' School, German Swiss International School and St Paul's Co-educational College, last Sunday's event attracted more than 700 participants.
'It was far beyond our expectations. We must thank all the walkers who turned out to help this worthy cause,' said Jessica Hui, the walkathon organiser.
More than 100,000 children are born with facial deformities each year in countries where Operation Smile has set up centres.
The walkathon started from the HKIS Middle School in Tai Tam and covered a distance of five kilometres along Tai Tam Country Park.
