Jennifer Lopez has returned with a new album Rebirth but, unfortunately, the music does not live up to the title.
With her limited vocal range, J Lo has always made use of clever backing vocals, musical arrangement and mixing to make her songs more enjoyable.
But, things do not work that well this time. Unlike her previous albums On The 6 (1999), J.Lo (2001) and This Is Me ... Then (2003), Rebirth lacks a punchy, powerful song to hook the listener. Let's Get Loud, Love Don't Cost A Thing and Jenny From the Block sold millions of previous albums for her.
The first single Get Right is perhaps the best of the 12-track album. There is also an alternate version of Get Right featuring Fabolous. From there, things go downhill and it takes some patience to finish the whole album.
J Lo is lucky to have good looks to compensate for her shortcomings. The accompanying DVD, with a video and the making of the album, makes Rebirth slightly more entertaining.
