A pretty, brightly coloured little pastry shop opened recently on Old Bailey Street. La Vie en Rose was started by Della Lui, who lived in Paris for four years, attending the Jean Ferrandi culinary school, working six-month stages at the Gourmaud and Fauchon pastry shops and receiving certification from the French government that she is qualified in making fine pastries, confectionery, chocolates and ice cream. Lui opened her shop just over a month ago and is starting small, concentrating on mousse cakes that range from $350 to $380 for a whole cake. She also makes chocolate truffles and takes special orders. Lui plans to gradually increase the range of cakes to include Black Forest, fraiser (strawberry) and mocha.
